Range Pavilion Project

JUL-AUG 2009

I like to shoot and one of the reasons I bought this property was that it had an excellent area in the back for constructing a range. Also, the neighbor's house is over 1,500 feet away in the opposite direction. Back in 2003 I constructed a simple table to see how the area worked out. Well, it was the place for a larger structure.

Since I had 700+ feet to trench I rented a trencher from True Value. It was not in the best condition but it got the job done. Lots of roots !

The frame of the structure is treated 4x4's This was an adventure as I have never done this myself before. Used the small tractor to dig the post holes.

Frame done. Time to move some dirt and build a back wall from rocks found on my property.

Roof time. 1/2 inch OSB. I made the trusses in the garage. The heck with paying over $400 for them.

New table 2x8 so lots of room and electrical now hooked up. So, I have a outlet. (made this too low so I had to move it up)

Tar paper on.

All done for this year. Got the ends in and covered with Tyvek so the weather won't destroy the wood. Use Ondura roofing products so it was easy to get the roof done when you are working with 4x6 sheets at a time. (They advertise this to be used on your house, NO WAY but for a shed its great). I wanted the building to blend in so brown was the choice. Lights in and ceiling fan working.

Still have to hook up a video camera as I ran a video line down. I can watch the deer in the back fields with that.

Update Spring 2016

With retirement less than three years away and we are considering our options on selling the place and moving to sunny Arizona it was time to start on a punch-out list. So, it was time to finish the pavilion structure ends. I had a good bit of James Hardie fiber cement siding left over from the house project so it was perfect for this project.

Using the new RTV as my work-bench

North side all done.

South side all done.

I had to order the OSI-quad caulk from Home Depot online store. Will get it next week. After the caulk dries we will paint the ends a earth toned green. Then I need finish the brick floor but that will be easy and quic.

We use this pavilion more for relaxing vs. shooting as it's in the quietest part of our property.

My regret is that I did not use real roofing on this building. I went with a Corrugated Asphalt Roofing - Ondura - And its turned into a hornet condo. Perhaps someday I will replace it with shingles.
